The Wiley Family has been repairing automobiles in Chester County longer than most cars have been produced.
The first auto repair facility was opened in 1913 by Fred Wiley on Route 100 in Eagle, PA. His business was moved to a larger garage in the 1920's which is presently Gordon's Sporting Goods, also on Route 100 in Eagle.
Fred's sons, Herb Wiley Sr. and Pete Wiley, opened a garage on Walnut Street in West Chester in the 1940's called Wiley Brothers & Lewis. In addition to repairing cars, they were also new car dealers. They sold Packards, Tuckers and Willy's Jeeps.
In 1967 Herb Wiley Jr. opened "Herb Wiley Motors" on Church Street in West Chester. In addition to mechanical repairs, he was also a Bricklin Dealer, and began Autobody & Collision repairs. He moved the business to the present location on Route 322 in 1980.
Herb was awarded First Prize in a national garage improvement contest sponsored by the Independent Garage Owners Association by improving his facility, equipment, and management system. He also acquired West End Towing and added a large modern body shop.
In 2000 the Mechanical Shop was purchased by Herb's son, Steve Wiley. Steve has over 20 years experience in the auto industry and a Business Degree in Administrative Management from the University of Delaware.
The Wiley family has repaired almost every type of vehicle in the history of the automobile. Before the advent of the auto, they repaired horse drawn wagons and carriages in Kennett Square, PA. They have been working in the transportation industry before the automobile, and may be long after. How's that for experience?
The newest members of the Wiley family to join the business are Dawn and Andrew,
